MUSICIAN

British singer-songwriter Jessie Ware's current playlist is a mix of vintage (Joni Mitchell and Marvin Gaye) and cutting edge (new albums from Rhye and Foals). Her concert-going experiences also happen to be a study in opposites: For her first, to see Kylie Minogue, Ware's mom bought her a new outfit and rented a stretch limo; years later at a recent Glastonbury festival, Ware camped with college friends in the rain and mud. But it was worth it, she says. "We managed to sneak backstage after The Gossip and meet Beth Ditto. She told her security to leave us alone and we all sang 'Umbrella' under an umbrella together."

Her current festival must-have is an actual ticket. "At Coachella three years ago, I tried to sneak in by jumping over a fence with my friends. We got busted and security put black Xs on our hands and told us we were banned. We washed it off and came back the next day with photocopies of a friend's ticket, and since there were problems with the scanners, we all got in!" she recalls.

STYLIST

British stylist Cher Coulter knows festival style. A fixture at Coachella, she's largely responsible for the indelible effect boho fashion plates like Kate Bosworth, Nicole Richie, Elizabeth Olsen, and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley (with whom she's pictured above) have had on the annual music showcase over the years—which would make sense, since Coulter takes a lot of her cues from rock bands of the sixties: the Rolling Stones, the Beatles, the Who—because "they styled themselves and weren't afraid to mix tailoring with fur or other flamboyant prints," she says. A massive David Bowie fan, Coulter is eager to get to his retrospective currently on exhibit at the Victoria & Albert Museum. As for a modern musician she'd love to dress, it would need to be "someone who's willing to go super punk with their look—maybe Alison Mosshart from The Kills."

The eldest of three sisters who make up the acclaimed California outfit Haim, Este started going to concerts at age nine with her parents and sisters Danielle and Alana, and though they weren't seeing acts that might make other third graders jealous—John Fogerty and the Doobie Brothers were a few of the family's faves—it was the coolest "just because we were out on a school night," she says. At Coachella in 2007, Haim and some friends snuck onstage while the Arctic Monkeys played, and instead of getting in trouble, they got to bust a move next to Regina Spektor and Gogol Bordello. These days, the 27-year-old is listening to the new Kendrick Lamar and Bat for Lashes albums on repeat. "And there's always a healthy dose of Motown playing in my car," she confirms.

Though this DJ/model envies Patti Smith's personal style, her first concert was a tad more pop-y: When her father, British record executive and one-time head of Columbia Records, Ashley Newton, signed the Spice Girls, Harley happily went to see the fivesome. You'd be hard-pressed to hear any of the girl group's tracks when Viera-Newton spins at parties for brands like Chloé and superstars like Beyoncé these days, but music remains something of a family affair for the 25-year-old. One of her fondest festival memories is when she and her brother went to Glastonbury in 2009. "We accidentally bought a tent for about eight people. It took us close to two hours to actually get the massive thing up," she recalls. "But just as we finished, Neil Young came onstage and played the most amazing set—it was the perfect reward for our hard work."

April showers bring May flowers—and the promise of a deluge of music festivals to come. 

With Coachella kicking off on the 12th and Bonnaroo and Glastonbury following shortly after, 

we rounded up some seasoned festival pros to help you stay sunburn-free and plenty 

noticeable long after the sun goes down. The Rolling Stones might not be headlining in Indio 

this year, but you can still rock out in the desert with Georgia May Jagger's favorite lipstick.

Between matte, chunky glitter, speckled, and rubberized finishes, it’s easy to feel like you’ve seen it all when it comes to lacquer innovation. When we do have problems, just “getting off our feet” would not necessarily lead to permanent relief. For one thing, foot pain does not always begin in the foot. Even though you are feeling the pain there, a tight Achilles’ tendon or calf music may be the actual source of your problem, may restrict ankle motion, causing you to put painful stress on the front of your foot.

Rest may help, but what’s often needed is a change in the way you care for your feet. The following is a guide to some common foot problems, along with tips on how you can help yourself:

♥ If feet are exhausted

If your job requires you to be on your feet in one spot all day-in front of a sales counter, for example-changes are you have complained that your feet are tired and achy. Standing in one place all the time is one of the worst things you can do to your feet. The muscles do not flex or contract, they are just static.

Tip-1

Step on and off a raised surface, such as a telephone book, to give your muscles some work. Or simply flex your feet rolling up onto the ball of your foot, then back to your heel. Take your shoes off and roll a golf ball behind the ball of each foot for a minute or two. A great message, it can also help with cramps or strains in your arch.

♥ Heels are giving trouble

Pain in the heel is repetitive stress of tissue where it attaches to the heel bone. You get microscopic tears on a daily basis and eventually you have severe pain in your heel.

The tears are in the plantar fascia, a springy tissue that runs from your heel bone to your toes. Bend your toes up and you shall recognize it as the tight hand running through your arch. This stretch will help loosen your calf muscles and stretch your Achilles’ tendon, reducing tightness in the muscles leading to the foot.

Two other low-cost measures: a short course of an anti-inflammatory drug, such as ibuprofen and soaking your feet in warm water at night. Over the counter shoe inserts may provide relief. In more severe cases, inserts available through orthopedists, podiatrists or physical therapists can be helpful.

♥ Foot pain

Problems in this area go by the name metatarsalgia. Causes range from damaged nerves to simply wearing a shoe that is too tight in the toe box or too high in the heel. Switch to flat shoes that have wider toe box. To relieve pain, place a pad just behind the weight bearing ball of the foot. If you can not stop wearing high heels altogether, limit them to special occasions.

♥ Foot suffering

Corns, areas of thickened skin about the size of corn kernels, are caused by excess pressure on one point on the foot. They typically form on the top of or between toes and often result from wearing shoes that are too tight. For quick relief, putting a thin gauze pad, corn pad, corn pad or bandage between the affected toes to keep them from rubbing against each other. Softening the corn with oil and then sanding it with a pumice stone can also be beneficial.
